Midwest Morel Forecast ("we") provides a morel mushroom forecast app and website at midwestmorelforecast.com. This policy explains what we collect and why.

What we collect

Location. If you allow it, your device location is used to pick your forecast town. Your coordinates are sent to weather and place-name services (see below) to get your forecast and town name. You can type a town instead.

Account (optional). Sign-in is handled by Clerk. Clerk stores your email address and sign-in details; we receive a user ID linked to your account.

Saved spots, finds and preferences. Stored on your device. If you are signed in, they sync to our server so you can use them on other devices. They are private and never shown to other users.

Alerts. If you turn on alerts, we store an Expo push token for your device, the location coordinates and settings you chose for alerts, and when we last notified you.

Community reports (optional). If you share a find, we store the name you enter, species, count, notes, date and a deliberately blurred location. Reports are visible to other users. Reports aren't linked to your account, so deleting your account doesn't remove them. Email support@midwestmorelforecast.com to have specific reports removed.

Spring challenge (optional). If you enroll, we store your display name, state, leaderboard and sharing choices, hunt logs (date, quantity, habitat notes, county, notes) and a fingerprint (hash) of any photo you log to prevent duplicates. The photo itself is not stored.

Photo ID. Photos you submit are sent to OpenAI to generate an identification guide. We do not save the photo on our servers.

AI advisor (Pro). Questions you type are sent to OpenAI to generate answers. We do not store your advisor conversations on our servers.

Pro membership. Payments are processed by Whop. We store your plan, membership IDs and expiry, not your card details. Deleting your account does not cancel a Whop membership. Cancel it in your Whop account under Memberships before you delete.

Feedback. Your message, category, optional name and a random device ID.

Usage analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 and our own first-party analytics, which record a random device ID, app events (for example forecast opens and button taps), session counts and whether the app is installed. We do not send your account ID, email or location to Google Analytics. Google may process IP address and device information under its terms. Our own analytics also store your account ID with some server-side events when you're signed in. These are deleted with your account. Google signals are turned off and our analytics aren't linked to any advertising accounts. Google Analytics keeps event data for 2 months.

We do not sell your personal information and do not use it for third-party advertising.

Your choices

Deny location and enter a town; use the app without an account; turn off alerts; delete saved spots and finds in the app; delete your account and its data in the app (More → Delete account) or as described on our account deletion page.

Children

Midwest Morel Forecast is not directed at children under 13.
